RALLY SAYS “IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE!”

 

Over 150 people crammed into the Main Hall at the Mechanics Institute on Saturday, demonstrating that ordinary union members and activists believe it is time for a change at the top of Unite.

I was humbled to see so many people giving up their time on a wet Saturday morning, but inspired by the tremendous support they showed.  Activists and members from all over the north west came, but so did people from Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Yorkshire and the Midlands.  The need for change in the union was palpable, and so many of those who spoke at the meeting told me that they wanted to see a union capable of fighting the recession; a clean union, free from hypocrisy – but most of all a union for the members.

I am now arranging rallies in every region of the union in the run up to the ballot opening.  Check the web site for details.  In the meantime, can I thank all those who attended on Saturday for their support.
